Molecular Genetic Testing
Alzheimer´s Disease (AD)

Indication and Diagnostic Value

Genetic testing of the apolipoprotein E gene is highly recommended when first clinical symptoms of the late form of AD are present. According to the Consensus Statement of the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, carriers of the ApoE-4 allele have a 20fold increased risk for developing late and sporadic AD. Early detection is possible by a genetic test and helps to take appropriate measures.

Samples and Test Method

IMMD blood stain test paper is required. Please use EDTA blood only. PCR and restriction fragment analysis unambiguously determine all three variants: ApoE-2, ApoE-3, ApoE-4 in their homozygous or heterozygous forms.

Turnaround time for this test is 10 days.
